Introduction

This process will make your book available to Baker & Taylor Distributors, as well as over 400 smaller bookstores and libraries that order directly from Masthof. If you go to your local bookstore and request your book to be sold, many bookstores will not purchase it from you, but they will purchase it from a recognized distributor like Masthof or Baker & Taylor. Baker & Taylor is one of the largest national and international book and media distributors.

Your book will be listed as a regular title in the Baker & Taylor database, and will not be listed as a print-on-demand title, like with Lightning Source.

Your book will also be featured in our quarterly supplements that Masthof mails, specifically targeted to over 400 bookstores and libraries.

Costs to the Author (Self-Publisher)

To get started in the program, we must submit your title and you must sign a contract with our bookstore manager. The only cost to you is a 55% discount off your set retail price.

Bookstore Terms

Your book will be offered to all bookstores at a 40% discount. Bookstores will also have the option of returning any books they do not sell, which will help convince bookstores to purchase your book. Some bookstores will only purchase books on a returnable basis. If books are returned, we will ask you to buy them back from us at the same price we paid you (55% less than retail price).

Retail Price

Your book retail price will be the price you set. The amount you will be paid per book is 45% of your retail price. (This is a 55% discount, as mentioned above.) When we receive an order from a bookstore or Baker & Taylor, we will contact you (the author) requesting copies of your book. Masthof will then pay you after we have received payment from the purchasing bookstore or Baker & Taylor. Generally it can take anywhere from 2-3 months before you receive your check.
