Marketing Creatively

One of the most common questions from new authors is "how to I sell my book?" Our best-selling authors often put a lot of time and energy into book promotion. We have listed some of our favorite examples below.

  • Ask to speak about your book at local libraries, events or churches.
  • Contact local bookstores (even the big chains; most Barnes & Nobles are very willing to work with local authors) and have a book signing.
  • Speak on a local radio station morning talk show.
  • Consider teaming with a local nonprofit organization to create gift packs for the needy, single moms, prisoners, etc. which will include a copy of your book and other items. Then help find people or businesses to sponsor each pack.
  • Contact local businesses to see if they would want to have their logo printed on the cover of your book or calendar so they could use them as a gift of thanks to their clients.
  • Design a brochure or flyer about your book and mail it to the contacts in your address book. Or if you can afford it, ask us about preparing a drop shipment to your local zip code post office boxes.
  • To increase awareness on the internet, post a simple web page about the book. Talk about your book on different forums and be sure to include links to at least one site where they can purchase your book. The more links about your book, the better Google ranking you will have.
  • Ask your local grocery store, consignment shop, or Wal-Mart if they will sell your books for you.
  • Consider adding a link to your email signatures for your book.
  • Work with local businesses and doctors to display your book in their waiting rooms, conference rooms, offices, at their front desks, and so on.
  • Ask Masthof to market and sell your book for you in our bookstore and on the Masthof website.
